Did you know that May is Mental Health Month?
So many people live with mental illness – people you work with, pass on the street, say hi to at the gym. . .
It never occurred to me until my brother was diagnosed.
In fact, if you lined up ten people, two of them will face a mental health issue just this year. . .
Out of those ten, someone like you or me will step up in love and courage to support them. There are roughly 8.4 million caregivers to those who live with mental illness in the U.S. today.
Caring for someone who is living with a mental illness can be a lot of work.
That’s why I’m glad May has celebrated mental health!
And, it is why the work that Courage to Caregivers does is so important. The staff that I work with every single day – volunteers, our program coordinator, counselors, social workers, behavioral health clinicians – are focused on helping you to learn how you can thrive while your loved one heals.
That’s what Courage to Caregivers is all about. . .
Most importantly, we couldn’t do our work without our community partners.
So, during Mental Health Month, I wanted to say a big thank you to these businesses and organizations who help us to achieve our goals. And a special thank you to LifeAct. LifeAct focuses on depression awareness and suicide prevention programming throughout Northeast Ohio middle and high schools. They were our first official community partner, we did our soft launch at their community walk last year.
If you have been touched by mental illness in your family and you’d like to help, we’d love to have you!
