Creativity Lets You Be You

I love this quote from Albert Einstein: “Creativity is seeing what everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has thought.”

Einstein wasn’t talking about just science. Whether it’s art, cooking, gardening, crafting, problem-solving, you name it, just about anything we endeavor to do can benefit from a little creativity. We can use the same tools, shape the same materials, or address the same issues, but by thinking of them differently and placing our own signature on them, we can create something new and exciting. What better way to showcase our individuality and advance our personal growth!

Everyone has the ability to express themselves in a creative manner. You don’t need an art degree to create art, just like you don’t need to be a master chef to cook good food. And you don’t have to spend a lot to be creative. You can make art out of whatever you have at home, or simply take an old notebook and make it into a journal.

And according to ”9 Tips to Tap Into Your Creativity,” an article from Mind Development & Design, “Whether you consider yourself a creative person or not … creativity is a skill you can develop over time and is useful in both business and life.”

Here are five tools inspired by that article to help you develop your creativity:

  1. JOURNAL: Be prepared, creativity may strike at any time! Keep a creative brainstorming record (use a journal or a tool on your phone). Write down your ideas when they come.

  2. DOODLE: Pick up a pen and a piece of paper and just start drawing! You never know where your doodling might go!

  3. PLAY: When you play, you let go of inhibitions and other barriers to creativity. Try puzzles, games, crafting. Just have fun!

  4. BE A LIFELONG LEARNER: Take a class. Learn something NEW. Read a book outside your norm. Try a new hobby or activity. Invite curiosity, awe, and wonder into your life!

  5. MEDITATE: Breathing and meditation allow you to slow down, get out of your head, be more present, reduce stress, and unlock your creativity.

Creative expression is a great way to process emotions, vent energy, and have fun! It can increase your happiness, stimulate positive emotions, improve mental health, sharpen brain functions, reduce stress, and even make your immune system function better.

So find something YOU enjoy, get that flow going, and start CREATING!
